Robert Goodman joined us last night at the Community Gospel Church in Rensselaer to speak against the building of a casino. Goodman is Professor Emeritus at Hampshire College and served as Director of the United States Gambling Study, an independent project funded by the Ford Foundation and the Aspen Institute. He wrote the book The Luck Business: The Devastating Consequences and Broken Promises of America’s Gambling Explosion based on material from the two year study. He spoke with WAMC's Brian Shields to talk about the issues and promote the event. Listen here.
Goodman spoke on the hidden costs of casinos, delineated the problems with the government becoming a promoter of the gambling industry rather than a regulator, and answered questions from the crowd. We have a recording of the event and will post the full audio shortly.
